David Wang is a multi-faceted percussionist and educator based in Long Island, New York. Recent collaborations include commissioning a new work for hybrid ensemble by the Grammy-Award winning pianist/composer, Pascal Le Boeuf. David was also involved with the premiere of Michael Gordon’s Forest of Metal Objects at the Met Cloisters in NYC in 2025. As a soloist, he won the concerto competition at Stony Brook University, where he is scheduled to perform Tobias Broström’s Arena in April of 2027. He was the winner of the 2024 Black Swamp Solo & Ensemble Showcase Multi-Percussion division. In 2023, he was the percussion winner of the 2023 Yamaha Young Performing Artists. David has made international music festival appearances with the prestigious Lucerne Festival Academy (Switzerland), World Percussion Group (UK), and Chautauqua Festival Orchestra (USA). David received his bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Michael Burritt and earned the Performer’s Certificate. He earned a master’s degree in performance and chamber music at the University of Michigan, studying with Doug Perkins, as well as a Certificate in World Performance Studies. Currently, David is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University, where he studies with Eduardo Leandro.
